Clean Money in California Politics? Nurses say: "Some things money can't buy. Let's add politicians to the list"
Registered Nurses in California want to heal our ailing political system which will, in turn, help us reach
meaningful health-care reform.
The California Nurses Association (CNA) wants the Clean Money Elections Act on November's ballot, so all of us have an opportunity to run for office (not just millionaires) and campaign contributions would be limited.
Publicly-financed campaigns already work very well in Arizona, Maine and Connecticut. As their web site says:
"People who have more money should be free to buy more cars, more homes, more vacations, and more gizmos than the
rest of us. They should not be able to buy more democracy." - - (Bill Moyers)
Publicly-financed campaigns would take the corporate money out of politics. The CNA's long-term goal is universal health care
but too many big corporations (read insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies) are buying politicians to block health care reform legislation.
