"All great things are simple, and many can be expressed in single words: freedom, justice, honor, duty, mercy, hope".
- - Sir Winston Churchill
Where is America's justice, honor, duty, mercy and hope when it comes to the health of its citizens?
Unfortunately, there are all too many horror stories of the uninsured and underinsured. I ask myself daily, "How can America stand by and allow this to happen?"
How The Surgeon Pays for his Benz Submitted by RealNurse40 on Sat, 04/08/2006 - 9:47pm.
Yesterday George died. He lived 10 days after his surgery. I said good night to him the night before surgery. At 10 pm he was sitting in his chair coloring and mumbling to himself. His nappy white hair
had gotten so long it was difficult to comb. Because George was retarded and had mild cerebal palsy you had to talk to him before you moved into his space. He had spent 70 years living in institutions
and homes, . . . . .
When a single visit to a doctor can cost as much as half-a-weeks paycheck, we have a problem. We can't live without
insurance, but how can we pay for it? Life has become a gamble between insurance or food. We cant afford to do both". - - Jeanette, Bowie, Texas Read this letter to working women.

Marianne Lyles is an advocate for those who can not help themselves. She rounds up the lost, houses the homeless, feeds the hungry, rescues those at risk, provides medical care to
the sick, and does what ever it takes to bring comfort and hope. She is the founder of Greyhounds and Love in South Carolina and has been its driving force for the past 8 years. She has been a tireless
animal welfare advocate for many years including years as president of the Anderson County Humane Society.
But sometimes bad things happen to good people: Last summer Marianne's partner, Terry Howard, nearly lost his life when a driver raced through a stop sign and broadsided the kennel
van Terry was driving. For weeks his life hung in the balance, and the accident left him with permanent disabilities. Nonetheless, Greyhounds and Love continues its work because Marianne would not let
bad luck end her mission of mercy and goodwill saving Greyhounds.
Marianne has recently been diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis - Lou Gerhig Disease - a neurological degenerative disease that causes paralysis and a slow death. Even now, Marianne and Terry remain strong
advocates of the rescue work, knowing their time together is limited and the future is grim.
Marianne is one of those millions of people you read about who, through no fault of their own, do not have
medical insurance. The bills for doctors, tests, exams, medications, etc. are already reaching staggering proportions. Marianne and Terry stand to lose their personal possessions and when they are gone
-- Marianne's access to appropriate medical treatment will evaporate. Sadly, social services, social security, government programs etc. do not address the needs of people who suffer from catastrophic
illnesses, such as that endured by Marianne, until their assets are gone.
Marianne has devoted herself to giving life and comfort to others. It is her turn to be on the receiving end.
